Food for Fines at Winder and Nicholson in November

Food for Fines

The Winder and Harold S. Swindle Public Library invite you to participate in Food for Fines. Donate a canned food item to pay for your library fines! Items will be donated to a local food bank.

Items collected at the Winder Public Library will benefit the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia. Harold S. Swindle’s Food for Fines items will benefit the Banks Jackson Food Bank. The most needed food drive items include peanut butter, soups, chili, beef stew, canned fruits and vegetables, canned pasta, canned chicken, cereal, rice, pasta and sauce and dried or canned beans.

Both libraries will also be accepting “Adventure Bag” items. Adventure Bags is a local nonprofit that provides bags stuffed with essential items to children entering foster care or other agencies throughout north Georgia. In 2013, they provided over 1000 bags to foster children in 26 counties. Please visit their website at to learn more. Each item donated will equal $1 in fines.

Please note that donated items cannot be used to pay for lost or damaged materials, but they can be used to pay-off overdue balances. The Winder Public Library is located at 189 Bellview Street, Winder, Georgia and the Harold S. Swindle Public Library is located near Benton Elementary School at 5466 U.S. Highway 441 South, Nicholson, Georgia. This is a great cause. We hope you can help.

Author Visit at Maysville Public Library

Author Visit at the Maysville Public Library

Life, laughter, and happily ever-afters is what Laurie Kozlowski lives by. Laurie is a life long Jackson County resident and author. “Serendipity Summer” is her first published novel.

Laurie will be at the Maysville Public Library, 9247 Gillsville Road, Maysville, GA on Saturday, November 15th at 11am. She is offering a special giveaway to a lucky attendee. The book will be available for purchase and signing. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

Author visits happen at many of our libraries. Jefferson Public Library had recent visits from Leon Ellis and G. Richard Hoard. Dean Hill was at the Commerce Public Library. Theresa Rice and Sonya Carlen have been showcased at programs at the Banks County Public Library. And Dr. Joe Braselton Cook had a book signing at the Braselton Library. Friends of the Braselton-West Jackson Library’s Lunch and Learns frequently feature authors, too. Tom Gill, Christine Martinello, and Linda Hughes have appeared, this year.
